Chia Hung Yu drew inspiration from the desire to create a home that fosters emotional connection among family members. Instead of focusing on a television wall in the sitting room, the design intentionally centers around a stove, symbolizing the gathering of attention and the cohesion of emotions. This unique approach sets Graphene apart from traditional designs and creates a powerful sense of unity within the home.
One of the standout features of Graphene is the inclusion of an independent audio-video room that doubles as a relaxing space. This room, reminiscent of a small cinema, provides the owner with a private sanctuary for unwinding and enjoying entertainment. By seamlessly integrating this multifunctional room, Chia Hung Yu has elevated the concept of relaxation within the home.
The design of Graphene showcases the innovative use of materials and technology. The bar area, adorned with stainless steel, exudes elegance and sophistication. The cooking table seamlessly extends into the bar, creating a spacious cooking area that caters to the owner's culinary needs. This thoughtful integration of design and functionality enhances the overall experience of the space.
Graphene's technical specifications include a total area of 251 square meters, providing ample room for the various elements of the design to flourish. The design tags associated with Graphene encompass cooking, audio-video, art, building, beautiful scenery, bar, and spectacle, reflecting the diverse range of experiences the design offers.
Chia Hung Yu, the director of the project, meticulously planned the interaction between different spaces within Graphene. The audio-video room is strategically located in a discreet area, ensuring privacy and separation from the rest of the indoor space. This thoughtful arrangement allows the owner to enjoy a more secluded and personal environment.
The creation of Graphene took place in Taiwan, specifically in Taipei, with the project commencing on November 1, 2011. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to optimize functionality and aesthetics. Notably, the inclusion of a sliding door in the open kitchen allows the owner to isolate cooking fumes when necessary while maintaining an open and connected space during regular use.
Chia Hung Yu faced various challenges during the design process, particularly in the selection of ornamental artworks. The meticulous attention to detail required finding the perfect artworks, including works by Taiwanese ceramists and paintings by British artists, to complement the design. This dedication to finding the ideal pieces demonstrates the designer's commitment to creating a harmonious and visually stunning environment.
Graphene is a testament to Chia Hung Yu's innovative vision and ability to transform traditional Western lifestyle concepts. By prioritizing emotional connection, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, Graphene sets a new standard for modern living spaces. This exceptional design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving quality of life.
